These are the steps leading to the field (and the "wall"). 29 of 100 Here are the stands at the football field. 30 of 100 And the football field... 31 of 100 One of the first areas to be torn down is the bus garage. 32 of 100 Then I believe the old end of the school. 33 of 100 ...and the pool... 34 of 100 another view of the pool... 35 of 100 And next to the school, the NEVER-ENDING work on 309 "expressway." The next pictures I post will show some of the demo of the school, which should start soon. 36 of 100 The first set of these pictures disappeared. These are the new modular classrooms along Ft. Wash Ave. 37 of 100 More up close pics of the modulars, which will be used for the 4 years of construction. 38 of 100 View of the modulars next to the gym. 39 of 100 6-27-08: They have begun to tear down the bus garage. 40 of 100 6-27-08: Now some of the trees are coming down next to the old building. 41 of 100 7-3-08: The bus garage is gone! 42 of 100 7-25-08: The one side of the old school is being torn down. 43 of 100 7-25-08: The old entrance to the old school (to the right is the library which will not be torn down until the second phase of construction). 44 of 100 7-25-08: The one wing of the old building is gone, as is the bus platform. 45 of 100 7-25-08: The practice football/soccer field has been flattened, they will be building on this. 46 of 100 7-25-08: What is left of the remaining back wing of the old building. This will also be demolished in the next week or so. 47 of 100 8/15/08: More demo of another wing. 48 of 100 8/15/08: More demo. 49 of 100 8/15/08: From the front. 50 of 100 8/15/08: The pool and gym are still standing, for now. 51 of 100 8/15/08: The left side of the old entrance and that whole wing is now gone. 52 of 100 8/22/08: Here is what is left of the pool. 53 of 100 8/22/08: A closer picture of the pool. 54 of 100 8/22/08: Only the old gym and lobby of the old school are still standing. 55 of 100 8/22/08: Last picture of the remaining wall of the pool. As I was watching, they were ripping out the bottom of the pool. 56 of 100 9-14-08: The rest of the old part of the school is now down. It is being cleared away and they have begun to build the new school on the site. 57 of 100 9-14-08: From the front of the school. 58 of 100 9-14-08: Looking from the football field. 59 of 100 9-14-08: Again, from the front of the school. 60 of 100 9-14-08: This rubble used to be the walls of the gym and pool. 61 of 100 11/15/08: In case you did not know, the township built 2 football/soccer fields right behind the HS connecting to Susquehanna Rd. They are lighted and astro-turf. 62 of 100 11/15/08: They have started building the new gym/pool area. This is where the bus garage used to be. 63 of 100 11/15/08: A close up of the area started to be built. 64 of 100 1/11/09: The new gym and pool as seen from the front street. 65 of 100 1/11/09: The new gym/pool as seen from the back (where the bus garage used to be). 66 of 100 3/20/09: The new gym and pool looking from the front (from the township building). 67 of 100 3/20/09: Another picture from the front, toward the right. The entrance to this part of the new school. 68 of 100 3/20/09: A picture of the new gym and pool from the back parking lot. 69 of 100 7-18-09: This is the new gym looking from the back from the steps to the football field. 70 of 100 7-18-09: This is also looking from the back from the fallball steps, it shows the new cafeteria. 71 of 100 7-18-09: This is looking at the front of the new school from across the street at the township building. 72 of 100 7-18-09: This is another picture of the back (parking lot side) of the new construction. They are now giving tours if interested. 73 of 100 7-18-09: Just so you don't think they have forgotten classrooms, these are some classrooms in the front extending from the pool area to the front main entrance. 74 of 100 10/11/09: New front entrance to the school. Starting to look nice. 75 of 100 10/11/09: To the left of the last picture. The classrooms from the new entrance to the pool/gym area. 76 of 100 10/11/09: Both sides of the new entrance. The performaing arts center will be to the right of this. 77 of 100 11/20/09: This is an interior view of the new pool. The pool is configured so that you can swim lengthwise 8 lanes or widthwise 12 lanes and the length can be adjusted. There are many more built-in bleachers than the old pool. It is very impressive. 78 of 100 12/12/09: The front of the new building. 79 of 100 12/12/09: Entrance to the Athletic area (gym and pool). 80 of 100 12/12/09: Inside entrance to the Athletic area. 81 of 100 12/12/09: the new gym - with large bleachers on both sides. 82 of 100 12/12/09: Another view of the gym. 83 of 100 12/12/09: The new pool. A meet was about to start. 84 of 100 12/12/09: Check out the stands which are on a balcony. These is some AC on in there because it was actually cool doing the meet. 85 of 100 12/12/09: One more picture of the pool. 86 of 100 1/12/10: The old (but built after we graduated -- so what does that make us?) library has been torn down. They are using the old gym for the library right now. 87 of 100 1/12/10: Another shot of where the old library used to be - next to the Auditorium. 88 of 100 1/29/2011: OK, it has been a year since I posted any pictures of the new school. All the work has been done inside this past year so not much to show. The new section opened on 1/3/11 and this weekend was a tour for the community, so I went and took some pictures. What a GREAT looking school! 89 of 100 1/19: This is another view of the main entrance. This is right across the street from the township building. We just had 16 inches of snow this week (for those of you who now live in warmer climates). 90 of 100 1/29: After you come through the main entrance, you come to the welcome desk. 91 of 100 1/29: To the right of the main entrance is the Principal's Office. Nice looking - if you need to spend time there. 92 of 100 1/29: To the left of the main entrance is the Guidance Office - also very nice. Wonder if they are doing a better job "guiding" in there? 93 of 100 1/29: Just past the entrance, you come to the main hallway leading to the rest of the school. 94 of 100 1/29: The rest of the hallways look like this.... 95 of 100 1/29: Where the main hallways intersect, there is a space where there can be chairs, ticket sales for an event, or whatever. The day of the tour, the choir was singing. The cases in the back reflect what is in that section of hallways (i.e. English; Science; Math; etc.). 96 of 100 1/29: In the cafe, instead of standing in a long line, you go to whatever section you want: hot meal; deli; fruit; beverage; desserts; etc. then go to the check out and most people have a debit card rather than using cash. 97 of 100 1/29: Then the seating is in the new new main cafeteria (I say new-new since they built the last new one 10 years ago). Nice big windows looking outside. 98 of 100 1/29: And here is a view of the cafeteria outside. It looks over the back parking lot (which is still a construction site). 99 of 100 1/29: The Library (or as they call it "Media Center") is over the main entrance looking out to the front of the school. Very Nice. 100 of 100
Pics -Part 2 - UD Old School, Remodeling/Demolition and New Upper Dublin HS Complex-Approx 2008-2012
1 of 65 PART TWO: 1/29/11: Ran out of room in the other album so continuing here. Again, this is the new media center/library. 2 of 65 1/29: In the library looking out to the back lot. 3 of 65 1/29: YES, they have a juice bar IN the library. I heard they may also serve coffee!!!! 4 of 65 1/29: This is the computer lab off of the library. There are also several other computer labs throughout the school. 5 of 65 1/29: This is the hallway outside the multi-purpose room on the second floor. Lots of space. 6 of 65 1/29: This is a portion of the multi-purpose room. 7 of 65 1/29: This is a typical classroom. Each of them have smart boards with projectors in the ceilings. 8 of 65 1/29: A Science Classroom. 9 of 65 1/29: An English room - yes, it has a fireplace - so they can read by the fire - atmosphere (now you know why our taxes are so high, I mean, "really?") 10 of 65 1/29: And they even have desks in the English room. 11 of 65 1/29: There are several places throughout the school where there are awards and trophies. 12 of 65 1/29: The tour continues, now to the athletic wing. They will let anyone on this tour (see Janet). 13 of 65 1/29: This is the entrance to the Athletic Complex. This is about where the bus garage used to be located. 14 of 65 1/29: The exercise room. This is right off the main athletic complex entrance. 15 of 65 1/29: This is the wrestling room. It is also used by the cheerleaders, which is why it has a high ceiling. 16 of 65 1/29: This is the main gym. Very nice size and large bleachers. 17 of 65 1/29: There is even a an alternative gym. I did not see this any time I have been over there so was surprised during the tour. It is full-size with bleachers. 18 of 65 1/29: The new pool. This is very great. High dive, 0 entry (walk-in), movable bulkhead, lots of seating area. 19 of 65 1/29: Now the LAST Phase. This will take another 2 years. Starts with removing the temporary classrooms, tearing down the old school, then building the Performing Arts Center. 20 of 65 2/4: Beginning to remove the modular classrooms. 21 of 65 2/4: Probably one of the last pictures of the front of the school before demo. 22 of 65 2/4: They have started tearing down the "newer" part of the old school. Here is the shop and the cafeteria. I will try to get other pictures this week as they do more demo. 23 of 65 2/26/11: The auditorium has been torn down this week, all that is standing is the front facade. 24 of 65 2/26: The front a little further away. 25 of 65 2/16: From this angle you can see that the auditorium is completely gone and only the front remains. I suspect that will come down next week. 26 of 65 3/4/11: The auditorium and lobby are now completely gone. Next will be the rest of the old school and the gym. 27 of 65 3/17: The gym is now half way demolished. You can see a basketball backstop in the back. 28 of 65 3/17: Another view of the gym. 29 of 65 3/17: Another view of the gym and the remaining 2-story section of the school. 30 of 65 3/17: See the cardinal on the wall and the basketball backstop half way down. 31 of 65 3/17: This is what is left of the front entrance. This was the entrance to the office/old library area.. 32 of 65 3/17: Here is what is left of the 2-story section. 33 of 65 3/17: And what is left of the front entrance to the 2-story section. 34 of 65 3/17: Across the street from the school and the UD Medical Center on Ft. Wash Ave., they are building a NEW firehouse. This will replace the one on Summit. This is being built on the old Ed Bonsell property. 35 of 65 4/2: Last remaining part of the old high school still standing. 36 of 65 4/22: The old high school is now completely down. The only thing that remains that was there when we went to school is the football stadium. 37 of 65 4/22: Another picture of where the school used to be located. You can see on the left the new school. On this bare land, they will build the new auditorium and music classes and closer to Ft. Washington Ave. will be a parking lot. (Sorry, but I miss the old school - it is just not the same when you walk in the new school - no memories from there -- hum, maybe that is good?). 38 of 65 7/8/11: They have begun to build the last section of the school. This will be the auditorium and band, orchestra, and chorus rooms. 39 of 65 7/8/11: This is a closer view of the auditorium. 40 of 65 7/8/11: This is a view of the auditorium looking from Ft. Washington Ave. 41 of 65 7/8/11: And this is a view of the auditorium from behind the school (from the medical center). Notice how tall it is over the stage. They will be able to have full backdrops and curtains go all the way up. 42 of 65 7/8/11: Here is the new firehouse across the street from the high school (built on Eddie Bonsell's old property). It is VERY big. 43 of 65 7/8/11: Another view of the new firehouse. You can see how far it goes back. 44 of 65 7/8/11: Another angle of the new firehouse from the medical center lawn. 45 of 65 1/8/12: The Performing Arts Center with walls and under roof. Seen from Loch Alsh Ave. 46 of 65 1/8/12: Close up of the front of the Performing Arts center. 47 of 65 1/8/12: The Performing Arts Center shown with the rest of the new school. 48 of 65 1/8/12: The Performing Arts center as seen from Fort Washington Ave. It is very large and has a full fly (a stage set can go flat all the way in the ceiling). 49 of 65 1/8/12: The new firehouse is almost done. This is on Ft. Washington Ave. right across from the high school. 50 of 65 1/8/12: The right side of the new firehouse. 51 of 65 1/8/12: The left side of the firehouse. 52 of 65 1/8/12: Another angle of the firehouse. 53 of 65 9/5/12: The final part of the new school is complete, the Performing Arts Center which includes the auditorium and band/chorus/etc. rooms. 54 of 65 9/5/12: Looking up at the stage. The state is huge and the fly goes ALL the way up so sets can be fully out of the way with dozens of backdrops. 55 of 65 9/5/12: Looking from the stage to the auditorium. 56 of 65 9/5/12: From the back of the stage looking out. 57 of 65 9/5/12: Another view of the auditorium. 58 of 65 9/5/12: The band room. 59 of 65 9/5/12: The chorus room - nice view. Nice room. 60 of 65 9/5/12: The entrance / lobby to the auditorium. 61 of 65 9/5/12: The side view of the Performing Arts Center, from Loch Alsh ave. 62 of 65 9/5/12: the view of the Performing Arts Center from Ft. Washington Ave. 63 of 65 9/5/12: The front of the entire complex completed. Thus ends my tour of the old and new school. I hope you enjoyed it and hope you will be able to see it in person some day if you live far away. 64 of 65 9/5/12: OK, one last one. further away - not sure you can see it but it shows more the entire building. Look for you all at the reunion! 65 of 65
